Week of Sound Portugal 2025

It is with great honor and responsibility that I accepted the invitation to organize Week of Sound in Portugal, which will take place in September 2025. Since February 2024, I have been working intensely, in collaboration with the team at Associação OUVIR and some Partners , with some Support and Sponsors in mind, to ensure the success of this event, which I consider a unique opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of hearing health.

For those who don’t know me, I am António Ricardo A. Miranda, President and Founding Partner of Associação OUVIR. My life has been marked by visual and hearing health challenges, which I faced with determination and resilience. I was born with coloboma in my left eye, which affected my vision, and later, as a teenager, I began to lose my hearing due to otosclerosis. Today, I use a cochlear implant and hearing aid, technologies that have allowed me to continue hearing and living fully.

My personal journey led me to create Associação OUVIR, in 2011, with the aim of supporting people with hearing impairment and promoting social inclusion. Organizing Week of Sound is a challenge that I accept with pride, as I deeply believe in the importance of hearing in our lives and in the transformative power of science and technology.

Week of Sound Portugal 2025 will be an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the essential role of hearing and hearing health in our lives. I hope that this event will contribute to greater awareness in Portugal about this crucial topic, promoting not only technological innovation, but also a more inclusive society aware of the importance of preserving this vital meaning.

I count on everyone’s support to make this event a success, and I hope that together we can continue to promote a society that is more sensitive to hearing health and the value that sound has in our lives.
